Ask yourself this question:  What would my life look like if I lived in the settled conviction that, because of God’s character and competence, this world is a perfectly safe place for me to be?  How would that impact your life and mine? Our anxiety level would go down.  We would have the settled trust that our lives are perfectly at rest in the hands of God.
One of the basic principles of Christian discipleship is prayer!  We need to learn to talk to God about everything that matters to us.  What matters to you?  Take it to God in prayer.  Scripture is very clear. In Philippians 4:6, Paul says, “Don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything (big things, small things, medium things) by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Many times the journey of faith discovery is all about waiting!  Don’t you love that?  Not!  Not only do you get to wait, you get to have challenges while you wait!  I have experienced two primary kinds of problems:  Circumstances and Critics.  You can count on this!
When you look at the cross of Christ, there is no question of God’s love for us.  You see, no one who saw a crucifixion ever drew a picture of one!  In the ancient catacombs in Rome we have pictures of Jesus as the good shepherd, Jesus and the children, Jesus on the Sea of Galilee.  But the first paintings of Christ on the cross did not appear until around 400 AD, long after crucifixion had been done away with as a form of execution.  No one who ever saw a crucifixion could bring himself to draw a picture of one; it was just too hideous.

As we reflect on the cross and its meaning for our lives, let’s look at salvation.  In order for us to go to heaven it costs God a whole lot.  Salvation is costly.  The Bible says the gift of God is eternal life.  It is a free gift.  Salvation is free but it’s not cheap!  Someone has to pay for it.  Someone paid our penalty.  His name is Jesus.
When you get discouraged, and you will from time to time, the question that pops up again and again is “why?”  It is usually a question about “me.”  My unfulfilled hopes.  My needs aren’t being met.  I’m not getting my way.  It is very self-focused. It is very internal.  It’s all about me!  However, in our times of discouragement God desires that we keep the big picture in mind.  Eternity.

Too many of us prefer the life as “garage door dwellers” rather than “front porch people.”  Front porch people are accessible, available, inviting and interruptible.  Garage door dwellers tend to isolate themselves from the very thing that their soul is craving!
