Richard Foster, in his book, Prayer shares a wonderful thought about Jesus singing over us in prayer!  I love that idea!  Sometimes, when we pray…Jesus is singing over us.  Listen to His voice:   “Sweet child, dear child, you know I care; Sweet child, dear child, you know I’m there. Sweet child, dear child, you know it’s true; Sweet child, dear child, I love you.   Got me a cradle, yes Lord, Big, strong cradle, my, my.
What would it take to make you happy?  Most of us attempt to find happiness through external situations instead of internal.  The popular idea of happiness is having the right circumstances.  It is called the “when and then” idea.  You know, “when I get out of school, then I’ll be happy.”  It is very tempting to go on a thrill expedition…searching for anything to bring happiness.
In Matthew 6:34, Jesus said, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow.  Tomorrow will worry about itself.  Everyday has enough trouble of its own.”  Jesus is saying don’t open your umbrella before it starts raining.  Rick Warren suggests:  “Every week there are two days you should never worry about – yesterday and tomorrow.”  What do we miss by not living in the now?  We should live today for two reasons:
I love the words in Isaiah 49:16, “I have written your name on my hand…”  Max Lucado, in his book, When God Whispers Your Name, writes:  “Quite a thought, isn’t it?  Your name on God’s hand.  Your name on God’s lips.  Maybe you’ve seen your name in some special places.  On an award or diploma…But to think that your name is on God’s hand and on God’s lips…my, could it be?
What is God really like?  For most of us, it’s difficult to trust God until we know what God is like!  The good news is God wants us to know what He is like.  So He came to earth 2000 years ago and came in the form of a human being.  He came to us in the gift of Jesus Christ.  He said this is what I am like…through Jesus, you see what I am like!  Colossians, chapter one, says, “Christ is the visible expression of the invisible God.”  If you want to know what God is like, just look to Jesus!
Ask yourself this question:  What would my life look like if I lived in the settled conviction that, because of God’s character and competence, this world is a perfectly safe place for me to be?  How would that impact your life and mine? Our anxiety level would go down.  We would have the settled trust that our lives are perfectly at rest in the hands of God.
One of the basic principles of Christian discipleship is prayer!  We need to learn to talk to God about everything that matters to us.  What matters to you?  Take it to God in prayer.  Scripture is very clear. In Philippians 4:6, Paul says, “Don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything (big things, small things, medium things) by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Many times the journey of faith discovery is all about waiting!  Don’t you love that?  Not!  Not only do you get to wait, you get to have challenges while you wait!  I have experienced two primary kinds of problems:  Circumstances and Critics.  You can count on this!
When you look at the cross of Christ, there is no question of God’s love for us.  You see, no one who saw a crucifixion ever drew a picture of one!  In the ancient catacombs in Rome we have pictures of Jesus as the good shepherd, Jesus and the children, Jesus on the Sea of Galilee.  But the first paintings of Christ on the cross did not appear until around 400 AD, long after crucifixion had been done away with as a form of execution.  No one who ever saw a crucifixion could bring himself to draw a picture of one; it was just too hideous.
