From The Internal To The Eternal!

When you get discouraged, and you will from time to time, the question that pops up again and again is “why?”  It is usually a question about “me.”  My unfulfilled hopes.  My needs aren’t being met.  I’m not getting my way.  It is very self-focused.

It is very internal.  It’s all about me!

However, in our times of discouragement God desires that we keep the big picture in mind.  Eternity.

When I use to teach high school students I would say to them something like this, “Not only am I older than you and cooler than most of your parents (haha), but I have read to the end of the book!  God wins!”  God wins at the end.  When you understand that perspective and you’re thinking eternal big picture, oftentimes the discouragement seems so minor!

So, remember this:  you will get discouraged from time to time – but, you’re on the championship team!  The final game has been won!  In John 14: 1-2, Jesus says he goes and prepares a place for us.  Focus on the place!  Because when you focus on that “place” discouragement can become a little seed that can reap a harvest of spiritual renewal.

When Jesus hung on the cross the disciples were discouraged.  Think about this:  you follow Jesus and now He’s on the cross.  Dying.  The disciples are discouraged.  Then what happens three days later?  Renewal!

Focus on God and spiritual renewal can happen immediately.  No matter what you’re going through, whether you are winning or losing at life right now, whether you feel like a hero or a zero, God is at work in your life and He doesn’t want you to waste your life being discouraged.  Focus on that which is eternal.

See you soon!
